Siena and San Gimignano from Florence by chauffeur

Piazza del Campo and the towers of San Gimignano, two UNESCO sites: ZTL, drop-off points and how to plan the day from Florence.

Siena

Siena's historic centre has been a UNESCO site since 1995. Piazza del Campo is shell-shaped and divided into nine sections, linked to the Nine who governed Siena; the Palazzo Pubblico, home to the civic museum, and the Torre del Mangia, climbed separately, stand on it. The cathedral complex is visited with the Opera pass: check the rules on the official site.

San Gimignano

San Gimignano's historic centre has been a UNESCO site since 1990 and is known for its medieval towers, with about 13 or 14 surviving according to sources. The Torre Grossa, 54 m high, is the tower open to visitors, next to the Palazzo Comunale and the Collegiata.

Access and ZTL

Siena's centre is largely a ZTL and pedestrian area and Piazza del Campo is closed to traffic: guests are dropped at an outer point and continue on foot. In San Gimignano a ZTL with video gates covers the UNESCO perimeter, with new rules from 1 May 2026 according to the municipality. Conditions for chauffeur-driven vehicles have not been verified: we confirm them with the municipalities. The Palio changes access to Siena in July and August. Routes are uphill and cobbled: wear comfortable shoes.
