Chianti Classico from Florence with a chauffeur
Greve, Panzano and Castellina in Chianti: villages, wineries and tastings from Florence with a chauffeur, without driving after wine.
Three typical stops
Chianti Classico is the historic wine area between Florence and Siena. Greve in Chianti has the triangular, arcaded Piazza Matteotti, with the historic market on Saturday mornings; nearby is Montefioralle. Panzano, a hamlet of Greve, has the remains of its castle and the Pieve di San Leolino. Castellina has the Rocca, home to the Chianti senese archaeological museum, and the Etruscan Montecalvario tumulus.
With a chauffeur
Public transport between the villages is limited: with one vehicle you reach several stops in a day and nobody drives after tastings. The centres have narrow, often cobbled streets and part of the visit is on foot. Limited traffic zones in the villages have not been verified and should be checked beforehand.
Wineries and events
Many wineries and wine shops offer tastings, often by booking: you do this with the winery, confirming hours. In September Greve hosts Expo Chianti Classico and Panzano "Vino al Vino", busier periods. Radda, Gaiole and Volpaia are other places in the area.
