Tivoli by chauffeur: Hadrian's Villa and Villa d'Este
Hadrian's Villa and Villa d'Este, two UNESCO sites in Tivoli: what to see, how to plan the day from Rome and what to check first.
Two UNESCO sites
Hadrian's Villa, a UNESCO site since 1999, is the vast archaeological complex built for Emperor Hadrian: of about 120 original hectares around 40 are open, with baths, nymphaea and gardens. Villa d'Este, UNESCO since 2001, is a Renaissance villa with a unique example of a 16th-century Italian garden, fountains and fishponds. The Villae circuit also includes the Sanctuary of Hercules Victor.
Official information
Hours, tickets and access change by season and date, and the Villa d'Este fountains can close on individual days: the official site is Villae, from the Ministry of Culture. For visitors with mobility disabilities the accessibility service evaluates requests for a golf cart, via the contacts on the site.
With a chauffeur
Villa d'Este is in the centre of Tivoli, which may have traffic restrictions to be checked: the chauffeur takes you to the area and the rest is on foot, in a sloping garden. Hadrian's Villa is very large and visited on foot. They are two separate places: order and stops are planned together.
Seasons
Both can be visited all year. Spring and autumn are comfortable for walking; summer can be hot. Always check hours before fixing pickup and return.
